The fate of kidnapped Irish missionary priest Michael Sinnott is still unknown two weeks after gunmen took him from his residence in Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur, in the southern Philippines.
Catholic Church leaders in Zamboanga del Sur have called on the faithful to hold prayer vigils for the immediate release of Fr. Sinnott who was taken by suspected bandits last October 11.
Bishop Emmanuel Cabajar, prelate of the Pagadian diocese, said he asked the parishes throughout the province’s 21 towns and this city to hung streamers bearing the same message.
The call for prayer vigils was first aired by Cabajar in an October 16 pastoral letter.
He said the prayers should continue especially to ask for the continuing safety and health of Sinnott while in captivity, and hopefully his eventual freedom.
