BISHOP Deogracias Iñiguez Thursday expressed hope that the change of position of administration standard-bearer Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro on the proposed reproductive health bill is for real and not just a political move.
“I just hope that this was not just to court the Catholic Church,” said Iñiguez, chairman of the public affairs committee of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
The Church is opposing the bill that remains pending at the House of Representatives. The measure allows the use of artificial means of contraception. The Church wants couples to use only natural means.
Iñiguez said the Church will not campaign for any candidate but “if they are in favor (of our stand) that will be a plus for them. But if they will be against that would be against them.”
