SEN. Benigno Aquino III’s presidential campaign volunteers have launched a post-election “people’s consultation” on an agenda for the first 100 days of the new administration, likely to be led by Aquino.
“The battle” has just started, Geo Ann Hernandez told more than 100 People Power Volunteer Center members and other allies for change who gathered at the Jesuit-owned Xavier University Center for Industrial Technology on May 26.
The group’s candidate in the May 10 presidential election is leading the Commission on Elections count currently being verified by a board of senators and congressmen.
Hernandez invited participants, including young professionals and students, to raise issues they want Aquino to address early in his term.
She said discussions would be forwarded to a team drafting programs for the Aquino administration for integration into its action plan for change.
Volunteers included members of Church-based groups, civil society organizations and NGOs.
Several suggestions and comments called for transparency and consultation.
Participants also want the Aquino government to pursue laws and actions to deal with corruption, and attend to the proposal to shift to a federal form of government.
A participant called the consultation “a very good start for Aquino’s administration.” Another stressed that the success of a president depends on people’s participation.
