
KAMMERCHOR Manila, a Church choir based at the Holy Sacrifice Parish in Diliman, won a bronze medal (Champions Competition) for the Mixed Chamber Choir Category and a silver diploma (Open Competition) for the Folklore Category at the 6th World Choir Games held in Shaoxing, China.
More than 40 choirs from around the world competed in the categories.
Meanwhile, the St. Benedict Children’s Choir from Cebu brought home one gold medal in the contemporary music category and two silver medals in the religious category’s champions division and in the children’s choir category.
The Aquinas University of Legazpi Chorale and Miriam College High School Glee Club also represented the country in the competitions.
Organized by Interkultur, the World Choir Games featured over 20 categories, billed as the “biggest gathering of choirs and musicians from all over the globe.” The games used to be known as the “Choir Olympics.”
Kammerchor Manila was chosen as the representative of Asia in the Grand Opening Ceremonies on July 15. It was also chosen to present a 25-minute program in the Gala Concert.
The World Choir Games are held every two years. The American city of Cincinnati will host the 2012 World Choir Games.
