THE head of the association of major religious superiors (AMRSP) is backing continued impeachment proceedings by the House of Representatives against Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez in defiance of a Supreme Court suspension order.
“I think it’s the right move,” Benedictine Sister Mary John Mananzan, said on Wednesday.
A temporary restraining order by the Supreme Court should not hinder Congress from proceeding with the case against the Ombudsman, the co-chairperson of the AMRSP said.
“There is supposed to be separation of powers,” she added.
Sister Mananzan was one of those who originally called for Congress to impeach Gutierrez.
The Ombudsman is accused of failing to tackle corruption and human rights cases during the term of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
