A SOLAR-POWERED chapel is set to be built by residents of a mountain village in the northern Philippine province of Ifugao.
The plan of the people of Inwaloy village to build a solar-powered chapel was revealed in an article posted on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website.
According to the article, it is the dream of the people of Inwaloy to build a chapel where they can celebrate Mass and hold Bible services when the priest is not around. They even promised to provide free labor to build the chapel.
The community currently holds Sunday Mass and services in the house of a couple in the barrio.
The nearest chapels to Inwaloy are the St. Luke’s in Magulon, a two-hour hike up the mountain, and St. Andrew chapel in Guinihon, an hour-and-a-half walk downhill.
The SVD missionaries of Ifugao created a Facebook account titled “Help Build a Solar-Powered, Catholic Chapel amidst the Ifugao Rice Terraces” to help generate support for the project.
