CATHOLIC Church leaders on Wednesday met with President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang to discuss family planning polices, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
It was a high-level dialogue between Aquino on one hand and retired Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales and Bishop Nereo Odchimar, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, on the other.
Lacierda said the meeting was on the invitation of Aquino.
He said the meeting recognized the differences between the government’s policies and the Catholic Church’s tenets but focused on the commonalities between the two sides.
For instance, Lacierda said, there was a discussion on sex education and what values should be integrated into the program and at what age sex education in school should begin.
