THE Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has praised the Philippines for its role in promoting interfaith dialogue and nuclear disarmament.

At a three-day ministerial meeting in Bali, Indonesia which ended on May 27, the 120-member bloc welcomed its “ initiative of establishing an e-portal that is seen to increase the body of knowledge on global efforts in interfaith dialogue,” the Department of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday.

It said the ministers also “acknowledged the e-portal’s key role as an e-resource center that raises the level of awareness and understanding on the movement’s interfaith dialogue efforts.”

The government has been at the forefront of interfaith dialogue initiatives at the United Nations and within the NAM.

Last year, a special NAM meeting on interfaith dialogue and cooperation for peace and development was held in Manila.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jose S. Brillantes attended the meeting, which also marked the organization’s fiftieth anniversary. He said the NAM also commended the government’s efforts at the UN in pushing for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

“This is a clear recognition of the Philippines’ continuing contributions to achieving global peace, progress and prosperity,” said Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto del Rosario.
