ARCHBISHOP Jose Palma, incoming president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), will hold a dialogue with the urban poor in Cebu City on August 7.
Task Force on Urban Conscientization Cebu chairman Father Cris Mostajo said Archbishop Palma will celebrate Mass for poor communities at the Pasil Sports Complex in Cebu City.
Those expected to attend the Mass are informal settlers, workers, vendors, women and youth, and church people such as religious men and women, seminarians, and lay people.
Father Mostajo said the Church hopes “to foster awareness and action of the church people on the problems of the urban poor.”
“In keeping with being a Church of the poor, the dialogue is an avenue for Archbishop Palma to immerse in the lives of the poor and the marginalized,” Father Mostajo said.
Urban poor leaders from different barangays in Metro Cebu will bring up their problems during the dialogue, Father Mostajo said.
Before the dialogue, Archbishop Palma will visit families that are threatened by demolition, the priest said.
