FATHER Maglore Placer of Boracay Island in the province of Aklan said he returned one million pesos (US$23,255) he accepted from Korean donors following allegations the money came from supporters of casino operators.
Father Placer said he returned the money to the Korean Catholic Mission after being prompted by Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc of Kalibo in order to end the allegations.
“No matter how hard I explain that the money did not come from casino proponents, there will still be people who will think that I received the said amount in exchange for my support to casino operation,” the priest said.
“I said it several times, we will continue to protest against the proposed casino operation on this resort island,” Father Placer said.
