IF all you need for a rousing welcome for the new year is all that noise from firecrackers, the Department of Health (DOH) has packed it all in, in what it calls the “safest firecracker” in the world: a compact disc.
And, if some firecrackers are named Goodbye Philippines or Goodbye Universe, the DOH is calling its invention, launched Wednesday evening, “Goodbye Paputok”.
The Goodbye Paputok is similar to a super lolo, with dimensions of approximately nine inches on both sides of a triangle.
Goodbye Paputok is special, as it comes with a variety of sounds all in one: 5-Star, Watusi, Super Lolo, Judas’ Belt, Whistle Bomb, Kwitis, Luces and Trompillo.
The most important feature, says Dr. Eric Tayag, director of the Department of Health’s National Epidemiology Center (NEC), is that Goodbye Paputok is not intended to be lit, but to be played on an audio player.
“This is the safest way to welcome the New Year. Instead of lighting firecrackers play this,” Tayag told reporters while holding the CD wrapped in a super-lolo type of packaging.
