A PROTESTANT bishop in Karachi has found himself at the center of a row over an alleged sale of Church land to developers.
Angry parishioners say the sale is illegal and accused Church of Pakistan Bishop Sadiq Daniel of Karachi and the diocesan council of trying to profit from the move.
Hundreds staged a protest on Tuesday outside St. Andrew’s Church in the Saddar district of Karachi to demand the scrapping of the project.
Developers want to construct flats, offices and shops on land surrounding the 144-year-old church.
Daniel, who has served as a bishop in Karachi for the last 10 years, denied selling the land and allegations of commercialization.
“These are all rumors and falsehoods leveled against me. I can use it for any community development project — as its custodian I cannot sell Church property,” he said.
